Kick-Off Time: 1:30 PM, IST
Australia are way ahead as far as the T20I head-to-head record is concerned. Out of the 18 matches played between the two sides, India have finished 2nd best on 13 occasions. In the recently concluded tri-nation series, the two teams met thrice. Australia winning 2 of those, including an 11-run win in the finale. At the World event, the scoreline 2-1 favours the home team. However, the Aussies are mindful of India’s potent qualities. How will this encounter pan out to be? Will the Aussie domination continue or will the blue moon rise higher.
No international matches have been played at this venue so far. As per the WBBL references, out of the 5 games played here, the team’s chasing have won 3 whilst the teams batting first have a winning percentage of 40. In the last 2 fixtures, however, teams setting targets have gone on to win. Highest score at this venue – 164 by the Sydney Sixers.
Right-arm pacers have managed to cause the maximum damage on this turf. They’ve picked 25 wickets @ 24.5.

FANTASY TIPS FOR AUS vs IND
Whom should you pick in your fantasy cricket teams & why should you pick them? We’ve got the numbers to help you pick your best fantasy cricket teams.
Here, we break down the player’s performance against the opposition, at a venue & also considering their recent form.
Smriti Mandhana (IND)
Her recent form in the tri-nation series makes Smriti Mandhana an obvious pick. The dasher scored 216 runs at 43.2 & her strike-rate in the series was a gleaming 136.7. Mandhana scored 216 runs out of the teams total of 697 – a 30.9% contribution. Also, the Aussie conditions favour her batting style. Mandhana is a boundary hitter & most of her runs are accumulated through boundaries.
Smriti averages 26.04 in T20Is but her average against Australia shoots up considerably. She’s scored 374 runs against the best side in the world @ 46.75. Her strike-rate versus the Aussies is a cracking 136.99. It’ll be fair to say that Mandhana brings her A-game when she’s up against the very best.
How has she done against a particular bowler type & more importantly against the Aussie bowlers? Let’s compare
|Smriti Mandhana||v Right Arm Pacers||22||113.5||19.4|
|Smriti Mandhana||v Off Spinners||59.2||126.7||46.7|
|Smriti Mandhana||v Orthodox||43||141||30.5|
|Smriti Mandhana||v Left Arm Pacers||15.2||113||13.5|
|Smriti Mandhana||v Leg Spinners||12||111.6||10.7|
|Smriti Mandhana||v Sophie Molineux(Left-Arm Orthodox)||160||–|
|Smriti Mandhana||v Jess Jonassen(Left-Arm Orthodox)||176.5||–|
|Smriti Mandhana||v Delissa Kimmince(Right-Arm Pace)||152.6||–|
|Smriti Mandhana||v Ellyse Perry(Right-Arm Pace)||126.1||1|
|Smriti Mandhana||v Ashleigh Gardener(Off-Spin)||164.7||1|
|Smriti Mandhana||v Megan Schutt (Right-Arm Pace)||121||3|
Mandhana has toyed around with the Aussie bowling attack and the average which is in the high 40’s is for a reason. However, Megan Schutt has been her nemesis. The Aussie pacer has dismissed Mandhana 3 times but her strike-rate against Schutt’s pace is still a decent 121. Mandhana’s balls/dismissal against leg-break is a mere 10 & Georgia Wareham would probably roll her arms while Mandhana is at the crease. The southpaw’s current form & her record against the Aussies make her the player to watch out for.
She’s one of only 4 players to have scored 2 T20I hundreds. Meg Lanning is one of the finest women batters & she’ll be a player to keep an eye on. Lanning could muster only 76 runs in 4 innings in the recently concluded tri-nation series but let those numbers not deceive you.
In T20 World Cups Lanning has scored 711 runs(5th most) & averages 37.42 – 2nd best for batters. The skipper has the skill to accelerate at will & once she gets going, the scoreboard is bound to run at the rate of knots. Youngsters out there can take a leaf out of Lanning’s book. The book’s title would read ‘How to build a T20 inning’. As she keeps going past the 20s & 30s, Lanning’s strike-rate is always on the rise. Another clear indication of how immaculate her planning is when she’s out in the middle. And if you’re wondering whether she bats long? Chuck those doubts away. Lanning has scored 50+ runs 15 times.
|Meg Lanning||0 – 9||82.17||9.66|
|Meg Lanning||20 – 29||128.7||5.49|
|Meg Lanning||30 – 49||138.28||5.52|
|Meg Lanning||50 +||199.28||3.16|
The skipper averages 37.63 against India. Her strike-rate against the men in blue isn’t the greatest but the right-hander will keep the bowlers guessing.
From the blue corner, only Shikha Pandey & Radha Yadhav have dismissed Lanning. Just to put into perspective how big an ordeal Meg Lanning can prove to be, here are her numbers against bowler types.
|Player||Bowling Type||Avg||SR||Control %|
|Meg Lanning||v Right Arm Pacers||47.5||119.4||84.90%|
|Meg Lanning||v Off Spinners||49.9||120.5||90.10%|
|Meg Lanning||v Orthodox||31.3||113.1||88.30%|
|Meg Lanning||v Leg Spinners||49.2||110.1||88.30%|
|Meg Lanning||v Left Arm Pacers||50.5||150.8||88.10%|
India have Radha Yadav & Rajeshwari Gayakwad in their ranks to derange Lanning’s stay at the crease. But, very seldom does she lose control against the left-arm tweakers. An 88.3 % control whilst batting against each bowler proves it.
One cricketer who’s an absolute certainty in your fantasy cricket teams has to be Elysse Perry. The World’s best all-rounder has been there done that a million times. In 2019, Perry averaged 150 with the bat & picked 6 wickets. With the bat, 2020 has been nothing short of sensational for Perry. The World’s premier all-rounder smacked 469 runs @ 93.80 in the 2019/20 edition of the Women’s Big Bash League. Perry displayed her class in the tri-nation series picking 7 wickets in 5 games. You just can’t keep Perry out of the game.
There’s not much difference in Perry’ average in losses/wins. She averages 31.72 in matches Australia have won & 26 in games they’ve finished second best. The all-rounder has been a part of the Aussie line-up in all 6 editions. Perry knows how to win world cups.
Healy’s recent form has been abysmal. Her score in the last 5 innings read – 4, 1, 0, 1 & 9.
Her record against the top 3 contenders isn’t the brightest. Although she averages only 23 against India, her strike-rate is a resounding 136.9. Healy behind the stumps is nifty. Stumpings, catches & run-outs, where she’s involved, can also earn you important fantasy points. Healy is lethal against both pace & spin. Her strike-rate versus pace is 139 & against the tweaker a rollicking 145.
Healy can be an important fantasy player but to use her as a captain can be a bit of a gamble. Her record against the big teams might put you in a catch-22 situation.
Since 2018 Poonam Yadav has picked the most wickets in T20Is. She’s dismissed 51 batters & has conceded less than 6 runs/over. She’s ranked number 12 on the ICC ratings for bowlers in T20Is but she’ll be a fine inclusion as far as your fantasy selection is concerned. Versus Australia, the leggie has picked 7 wickets in 5 games. The Aussie top-order has a cluster of right-handed batters & this is where Yadav can come in handy. Her economy rate against the right-handed batsmen is 6 compared to 7.2 against the southpaws.
