Australian Squad for ODIs against India | Siddle, Lyon & Khawaja included | Short, Head miss out

Australian Squad for ODIs against India: The Aussie squad for the ODIs against India has been announced and some big names have been left out. Nathan Lyon, Usman Khawaja & Peter Siddle make it to the 15-man squad while the likes of D’Arcy Short, Travis Head, Ben McDermott & Ashton Agar miss out. The pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood & Pat Cummins have been rested after their heavy workload in the 4-match test series.

Short has been in magnificent form in the Big Bash League so far and dropping him might prove to be a faux pas. The Aussies are trailing the test series 2-1 and a sturdy line-up heading into the ODIs will do their confidence a world of good. How balanced does the ODI squad look?

AUSTRALIAN SQUAD FOR ODIs AGAINST INDIA

Aaron Finch (c), Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh, Peter Handscomb, Glenn Maxwell, Marcu Stoinis, Mitchell Marsh, Alex Carey, Jhye Richardson, Billy Stanlake, Jason Behrendorff, Peter Siddle, Nathan Lyon, Adam Zampa.

WHAT THE SELECTORS HAD TO SAY?

Chief selector Trevor Hohns was very precise about the management’s decision to rest the three pacers. He said, “After a hefty workload in the Indian series to date, it has been decided not to select Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood in this squad to allow them to freshen up for the Test series against Sri Lanka”.

Nathan Lyon is undoubtedly the best off-spinner in the world and like many successful ODI teams, the Aussies also have included two tweakers in their attack. How will the goat operate with the white cherry in hand? Only time will tell. Jhye Richardson and Jason Behrendorff have bowled quick and with a lot of guile in the BBL|08. Australia are ranked 6th in ODIs and the 3-match series against a powerful Indian squad will test their quality to the maximum.
