Bangladesh vs New Zealand: After registering thumping victories in their first match, Bangladesh and New Zealand are all set to face each other in the 9th match of the ICC World Cup 2019. Both the teams have started their tournament on an impressive note and they would want to continue that momentum and take an early advantage in the round-robin format of the game.
Both New Zealand and Bangladesh were ruthless in their opening game. While the Blackcaps were magnificent with the ball, the Bangla Tigers were stellar with the bat.
THE STORY SO FAR
New Zealand faced Sri Lanka in their first match at the Cardiff and decimated the team by bowling them out for a mere 136. Later, they comfortably sailed over the victory line winning by 10 wickets.
Bangladesh had a tough South African challenge ahead of them in their first match. However, a spectacular performance from the batsmen helped them seal the victory against the Proteas by a margin of 21-runs. Bangladesh posed a target of 330/6 and the Proteas, in response managed to score 309/8. This win gave a mouth-shut reply to all others, who thought that the team was here, only as a mere courtesy.
Bangladesh clearly stood out in their approach towards batting. Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim scored a brilliant 75 & 78 respectively, who helped the team reach a formidable score. However, apart from the duo, even Soumya Sarkar and Mahudullah were vital with their contributions of 42 & 46.
However, Bangladesh will be wary of the fact that the Blackcaps have a solid bowling attack. Their lethal pace combined with the swing is something that the Bangladesh batsmen have dreaded for years. If speedsters Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson get going, things are going to be very difficult for Bangladesh.
All-in-all, it looks like a cracker of a match with both teams weighing equally. Unless the weather god cooperates, there is going to be one team who will emerge victorious at the end of the day.

The weather forecast has some concerning news for the teams and their fans. The weather report forecasts the possibility of rains starting as early as 9 am, with low chances of calming down. The skies will be covered in thick clouds, with a cloud cover percentage of whopping 90%. The humidity will be on the lower end, with its percentages not exceeding 45%. The temperature will hover around 17 degrees Celsius. There are heavy possibilities of this game being completely washed out.
The pitch at Kennington Oval in London has a reputation of being a great pitch for batsmen. History testifies that those batting second have better chances of winning the game over those who set the target. Out of the 67 ODI played at the stadium, 39 were won by the team batting second. However, the two games played at this pitch as part of the ongoing World Cup tournament defy this theory; swith both games being won by the teams batting first. The track has been witness to three 300+ scores already in the tournament.
Bangladesh team has fit in like a solved jigsaw puzzle. Their team displayed great balance in their last game against South Africa. The team is under no pressure to make any changes. They can capitalise the high morale of the existing team, from the last victory, and put on a similar show. Although Tamim Iqbal is yet to deliver to his full capability, one can be sure that on his lucky day, he can create mighty troubles for the opposition.
Soumya Sarkar has been a star for the Bangladeshi team. He has been in a spectacular form, and his team will expect him to continue in the same form. Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim put on an awesome show in the last game; this will give them the much-needed confidence. Mohammad Mithun, Mosaddek Hossain and Mahmudullah who offered some firepower with the bat, in the death overs, will be looked upon by the team to put up a similar performance to add a few extra, vital runs to the table. Bangladesh flaunt a strong and in-form bowling department with Mustafizur Rahman and Mohammad Saifuddin, holding the fort. The spin department will be managed by Mehidy Hasan and Shakib.
Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim (WK), Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah, Mosaddek Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mashrafe Mortaza (C), Mustafizur Rahman
New Zealand too have no major reasons to fidget with their existing team. Colin Munro’s promotion to the role of an opener with Martin Guptill turned out to be a decent success, with the former scoring 58 runs out of 47 balls. Guptill, scored a stylish 73 with eight fours and a couple of sixes, to break out of his rough patch. Although Kane and Ross Taylor couldn’t put on a good show in their last game, they could be devastating for the opposition on their good days.
Kiwis have a great advantage with the presence of Colin De Grandhomme and James Neesham, who are good with both the ball and the bat. The news from the dressing room suggests the return of Tom Latham to the side, who was out of action due to finger injury. The bowling department will be looked after by Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry and Trent Boult; they have what it takes to work together to restrict the opposition to low scores.
Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Kane Williamson (C), Ross Taylor, Tom Latham (WK), James Neesham, Colin de Grandhomme, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult
