Bangladesh vs Pakistan | World Cup 2019 | Match 43 | FanFight Fantasy Cricket Preview | A Mere Impossible Task for Pakistan

Bangladesh vs Pakistan: Pakistan are almost on the brink of getting knocked out. They’ve got to come up with a supernatural effort to make it through. Probably do what Sri Lanka did to Zimbabwe in 2004. Is that even a plausible hope? Considering how brilliantly Bangladesh has batted in all their World Cup games. The Mashrafe Mortaza led side has scored over 300 3 times & have never been dismissed for less than 240.

For Pakistan to reach the semi-finals, they’ve got to bat first make 400, and dismiss Bangladesh for 84 and win by 316 runs or score 350, dismiss opponent for 38 and win by 312 runs. To elaborate, Pakistan needs a gargantuan effort to dismantle Bangladesh & for the record, 290 is the highest winning margin in ODIs. In the quantum world, the chances of Pakistan winning would be that of the size of an electron. All the spooky comparisons made with the 1992 World Cup have now gone down the drain & people who envisaged Sarfaraz Ahmed being the next prime minister can now breathe a sigh of relief.

WHERE DID IT ALL GO WRONG?

Firstly, Pakistan were never the favourites to get to the knockouts. Only after the English faltered, did they find themselves in a position of strength & that triggered some inspirational performances. If Pakistan could go back in time & repair the damage caused, they would certainly alter their tournament’s opener. They were annihilated by the Windies’ pacers & that has come back to haunt them. Defeats against Australia & India were inevitable. The washed out game against Sri Lanka could have gone either way considering the mercurial complexion of both the teams.

Babar Azam has been the most significant contributor for Pakistan but the middle order hasn’t functioned as anticipated. Against the Windies, the middle order(Number 4-7) could muster only 33 runs and the result was there for everybody to see. The games the unit won, the middle order contributed over a hundred runs. The best being against England, where they garnered 161 runs.

Pakistan’s Middle Order(4-7)
Versus Runs Result
West Indies  33 Lost
England 161 Won
Australia 91 Lost
India 67 Lost
South Africa 136 Won
New Zealand 105 Won
Afghanistan 113 Won

The equation is pretty simple but the execution, an Everest to scale. It’s ain’t over until it’s actually over but for Pakistan, the pursuit to the top 4 is assuredly OVER.

FROM MINNOWS TO STERN CHALLENGERS

Bangladesh is without a shadow of a doubt the most improved team over the last decade. From being an excitable unit in the 2007 World Cup to becoming one of brightest teams in the 2019 World Cup, the journey has been one to remember. The core of the team has been as solid as a rock & the new bees have come in & made a mark. Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mashrafe Mortaza, Mushfiqur Rahim & Mahmudullah have all done a stellar job to keep the unit together.

2019 has been Shakib’s World Cup. The world’s best all-rounder has been in scintillating form over the last month & is a frontrunner for the player of the tournament. But, the southpaw did express his disappointment of not making it to the top 4. The game against New Zealand was one fixture they’d have wanted to go their way. They did seem to get close to the Indian target but were defeated by India’s dexterity. Nonetheless, the stage is set for a cracking game & all eyes will be on the world’s finest cricketer. How much will Shakib add on to his runs tally? Also, as far as Bangladesh losing by a margin over 300 is concerned, well, that’s improbable.
