Bangladesh vs West Indies 1st Test: The Bangla boys were thoroughly battered by the West Indies in the Caribbean Islands a few months ago. The scoreline read 2-0 in favour of the West Indies, Bangladesh were dismissed for 43 in the first test and their batting effort was the worst by a test team in 63 years. Not a record, they’d like to be reminded of. They’ve got some scores to settle and the 2-match test series at home is the perfect opportunity. West Indies, on the other hand, have been in an around the sub-continent for over a month now. Although defeats against India in all the three formats might not seem the best outcome, the experience on slow & turning pitches will only help them adapt quicker in Chittagong & Dhaka.
Venue: Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong
Kick-Off: 9:00 AM, IST
Umpires: Aleem Dar & Richard Illingworth
FanFight Deadline: 9:00 AM, IST
The turf here is batting friendly but breaks as the match progresses. The norm for any pitch in the sub-continent. The average first innings score here is 370 and the average 4th innings score is a decent 210. Bangladesh rely heavily on spin and for them to outwit the West Indies, all the departments have to work in tandem. Batting last on any sub-continent wicket is a tough ask & the skipper who wins the toss will surely look to bat first.

PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR
Mushfiqur Rahim has been Bangladesh’s mainstay. The dynamic wicket-keeper batsman has batted his team out of trouble on quite a few occasions and he’ll be Bangladesh’s most important player in this test series as well. Since 01 January 2017, Rahim has scored 1219 runs at 48.76 in 12 tests. He’s scored 3 hundreds in this period, the 219* being the most recent knock. If Bangladesh put up a decent score on the board, Rahim, more often than not will be the significant contributor. Bangladesh’s top order hasn’t been in the thick of things and if they don’t fire at Chittagong, Rahim, yet again will have to do the cleanup job.
Roston Chase was the 2nd highest run-getter in the recent 2-match test series against India (scoring 185 runs in 4 innings at 46.25). Chase has by far looked the best batsman in the West Indian line-up and the stats over the last two years are also a testament.
Since January 2017, Chase has scored 1102 runs at 36.73 (3 hundreds and 5 fifties in this interim). The recent 106 against India was Chase’s first ton in the sub-continent and he’s likely to score a few more.
