Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe: Bangladesh’s dream of a loss-less Tri-Series was challenged by Afghanistan, who came on top of the former in their last encounter. Mohammad Nabi recorded an unbeaten 84 and his efforts were complemented by Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who scalped four wickets in the game, helping Afghanistan to a mighty 25-run victory. Bangladesh slipped to the second position making way for Afghanistan to claim the top spot. Bangladesh team is all set to play Zimbabwe at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
For Bangladesh, this game is very vital as a victory in this game will help them confirm a spot in the finals along with Afghanistan. Zimbabwe posed a serious threat in their first game and hence Bangladesh would be on-guard in the upcoming encounter. Zimbabwe have shown great mettle and put up good fights in both their games, however they couldn’t put up a show, good enough to win themselves a game.

PITCH AND CONDITIONS
The pitch at Chattogram is neither a batsman’s paradise nor a pitch for the bowlers. It lurks right in between. The average T20I score recorded at this ground is 148. However, it is to be noted that the venue hasn’t been a host to a T20I since March 2014. Hence, one cannot comment which team would have the advantage: the team batting first or the one chasing. However, in the ongoing series, the team batting first has enjoyed more benefits, hence on winning the toss, the teams may choose to bat first. The conditions are expected to be cloudy; however, the chances of downpour is forecast to be minimum. The temperature of around 29 degrees Celsius will make for pleasant conditions for the gameplay.
Soumya Sarkar is missing from the playing squad, which may lead to Nazmul Hossain Shanto’s possible inclusion in the team. Shanto may open the innings alongside Liton Das. Shanto put up a promising show for the Bangladesh Emerging XI with scores of 77, 133 and an unbeaten 88. A lot was expected from Shakib Al Hasan, however, he is yet to live up to the expectations. Mushfiqur Rahim might return to his original spot in the middle order as the experiments to try him out as an opener failed miserably.
Going by Mahmudullah’s trend, he may soon find himself in good form. Sabbir Rahman started off well, however, he could keep it going. Mohammad Saifuddin has been leading the bowling department for his team, from the front. Mustafizur Rahman has supported Saifuddin with a decent economy rate. However, hasn’t been lucky in claiming wickets. Afif Hossain did not get his chance to show his skills; it will be interesting to see his performance.
Liton Das, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan (C), Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mahmudullah, Sabbir Rahman, Afif Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain, Mohammad Saifuddin, Taijul Islam, Mustafizur Rahman
Zimbabwe have been struggling in both the departments; however, their batting department seems to be in a slightly better form over their bowling side. Brendan Taylor hasn’t been able to put up a good performance for his team. Craig Ervine has put up a decent performance, however, hasn’t performed to the best of his abilities. Regis Chakabva was in a handsome form in the last game against Afghanistan. Chakabva may be promoted up the order owing to that performance. Ryan Burl, with 82 runs at a strike-rate of 143, has been one of the most promising batsmen on his team.
Zimbabwe’s bowling needs serious attention. Their bowling turns from bad to worse towards the death overs. Although Kyle Jarvis and Tendai Chatara picked up wickets, they came at a cost 10.50 runs per over. Ainsley Ndlovu and Neville Madziva too couldn’t restrict the run-getting of the oppositions. Although Sean Williams has failed in the batting department, he has been Zimbabwe’s go-to bowler in the ongoing series with an economy of 6.71.
