CSK vs SRH | Match 41 | IPL 2019 | FanFight Fantasy Cricket Preview | Middle Order Concerns for SRH, Top Order for CSK

CSK vs SRH: Chennai Super Kings have lost their last two games. Sounds unfamiliar but have the other teams have found them wanting? CSK have been on the road since April 9th & have played 4 games away from home. They beat Kolkata with relative ease. Beating Rajasthan Royals didn’t take much of an effort but the South Indian teams tested the yellow brigade. SRH drew two important points against them & Royal Challengers Bangalore sneaked a victory off the final delivery. Does that make Chennai weak? Can they still work the other teams around like they’ve done with immaculate aplomb this year?

That’s an absolute no-brainer as far as CSK’s impressive record in the IPL is concerned. They’ve entered the playoffs in every season they’ve participated in. Chennai are 2nd on the points table with 14 points after 10 games. MS Dhoni & Co play the next three games at home. Well, that just demolished all the hopes the other teams had. At Chepauk, CSK have played 4 games this season & have won all four. In fact, the franchise has won 15 off their last 16 games at home. However, there’s plenty the opponents can explore to take them down to the absolute inch.

No CSK batsman features in the top 10 list of the highest run-getters this season. MS Dhoni is placed 13th with 314 runs at an average of 104.66. The skipper has bailed his team out more often than not but CSK have always functioned as a team & depending on only one or two players is not something you associate with them. How many runs have the other batsman scored this season? Let’s take a detailed look.

Player Runs Innings Average
Shane Watson 147 10 14.7
Ambati Rayudu 192 10 24
Suresh Raina 207 10 23
Kedhar Jadhav 145 9 20.71
Faf Du Plessis 178 6 35.6
MS DHONI 314 7 104.66

Dhoni clearly has been the man in form for CSK. His 84* off 48 against RCB was a testament that his striking abilities haven’t faded away. CSK isn’t a mercurial unit, they are as clinical as a team can get. They’ve played 4 games at Chepauk so far & have won all 4 of them with remarkable ease. How will the orange army fare in the land where no outsiders can come and defeat the home team? They’ve got the team to deliver but can they, is the million dollar question?

The team from Hyderabad have had a knotted series so far. They were hovering around the top 3 after the first 4 games but 3 defeats in a row pushed them to the 6th spot. The orange army is making decent strides to crawl back into the top 4 but they’ve got to get their A-game every single time they take the field. David Warner & Jonny Bairstow have done the bulk of the scoring for them & when one of them has failed, the team has struggled to get over the line.

To summarise how dependant SRH have been on the opening pair, here’s a mind-boggling stat.

SRH have scored 1404 runs as a team this season. The Warner-Bairstow partnership alone has scored 962 runs. That’s a gargantuan 68.5% of the team’s total score. Vijay Shankar has managed 139 runs in the 8 innings he’s batted. Since this will be Jonny Bairstow’s last game in this season’s IPL, Shankar will have to take up the responsibility of getting runs in the middle-order. Deepak Hooda, Manish Pandey & Yusuf Pathan have together managed 60, 54 & 32 runs this season. The top & middle order has to work in synergy to produce better results. Can they?

Kick-Off Time: 8:00 PM IST

Hyderabad beat the defending champions comfortably when the men in yellow toured the City of Pearls. Dhoni’s men were restricted to 132/5 after 20 overs only for the SRH opening pair to come out & go smack bang. The pair-added 79 in 9.5 overs on a slow wicket. SRH went on to win that game with 19 balls to spare. CSK, however, leads the overall head-to-head record. The teams have met 12 times in the IPL & CSK have won 9 of those encounters. In fact, this year’s defeat was their 1st in 5 matches. Last year, the teams met 4 times & CSK came out victorious all 4 times, including the finals. At home, CSK are certainly the favourites to win 2 points off of this game.

The pitch here at Chepauk has been a shocker this season. RCB were bundled out for 70 in the very first game of the twelfth season. KKR field one of the strongest batting line-ups in the IPL & they were crushed for a mere 108. CSK managed 175 & 160 in the other two games here. Is there a pattern to this? Are the curators preparing slow tracks for teams who can pummel spin bowling? Having said that, Warner & Bairstow have handled spin bowling to a nicety. Can they do it for the umpteenth time this season?

Matches won by teams batting first: 32

Matches won by teams chasing: 19

Average 1st innings score this year: 129

Of the 4 games played this year, teams batting first have won twice & teams chasing have won twice. Chennai chased down 70 & 108 successfully.
