FIFA WORLD CUP 2018 | 5 RUSSIAN PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR | NEWS

5 Russian players to watch out for: It’s 7 days to go for the 21st edition of the FIFA World Cup. Join us as we give an insight into the 5 Russian players to watch out for.

Starting off with Group A which consists of Russia, Saudi Arabia, Uruguay and Egypt. Here are the 5 players from each team you can bank on to earn points in your fantasy squads.

5 RUSSIAN PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR

1. Igor Akinfeev

Most likely to start for the Russians. Has impressed in the previous season with an average of 1.73 saves each game. Also, has a fairly impressive stat of conceding 0.90 goals per match over the course of last season. Pretty commendable given the defence he has in front of him.

2. Fedor Smolov

Fedor Smolov is Russia’s go-to forward. Averaging a goal every 136 minutes in the Russian league, he’s most likely to start every game. Over the course of last season, Fedor Smolov had 2.3 shots on target each game. If you want to take a striker from Russia, look no further than Smolov.

3. Aleksandr Golovin

Aleksandr Golovin who is probably the most exciting player to come out of the Russian League in recent times. He plays as a central or left-sided midfielder with a knack of popping up into the box and disrupting the shape of the opposition defence. He averages 55 passes per game with an accuracy of 89%, very impressive for a 22-year-old. Also, he creates 1.3 chances per game although he’s usually let down by a striker who cannot finish the chance he created.

4. Mario Fernandes

Mario Fernandes, who probably the only Russian with absolutely un-Russian name, is probably the most composed defender in the Russian squad. With an impressive stat of winning 1.83 tackles per game in the Champions League with CSKA Moscow. He also, at an average completes 30.3 passes each game. Mario Fernandes and Igor Akinfeev in your team might just guarantee you 10 points, but we’ll let you be the judge of that.

5. Denis Cheryshev

Denis Cheryshev, who was touted to be the next biggest thing to come out of Russia since vodka and also signed for Real Madrid with a promise being the next Guti has in a way fell flat and now plays his trade at the Spanish club Villareal. Although he’s had a bleak career, his potential contribution to the Russian team at the World Cup cannot be underestimated. With an impressive stat of 1.13 chances created per game, he just might be the most valuable Russian player at the World Cup.
