IN-W vs SA-W: The Indian ladies are in readiness to play hosts to the South African women. The teams will go up against each other in 5 T20Is & 3 ODIs. The preparation for the trip has been intense & the girls are up for a challenge, said coach Hilton Moreeng. Before arriving at the Indian sub-continent, the South Africa emerging squad took on Bangladesh emerging squad. The unit was beaten 2-1 in the ODIs but did manage to clinch the T20 series 2-0. Trisha Chetty looked in top form & she’ll be relied heavily upon when she takes on the India legion. Tumi Sekhukhune was impressive with the ball, taking 7 wickets & an economy of 5.25.
A decent number of players of the national squad took part in the emerging series & also attended the national cricket academy in Pretoria. “In Maritzburg, we also practised in slow and low conditions,” Moreeng explained. “The planning has been spot on, now it’s about execution in those tough conditions. But we have given ourselves a good chance.” The ICC Women’s Championship will also be a reason for the South African stars to be at their absolute best. With the T20 World Cup on the horizon, the 5 T20Is will be the perfect rehearsal before the event & will also help the committee solve their selection conundrums.
On the IWC standings, the Proteas are placed 4th, one spot behind the women in blue. All-rounder Sune Luus will be leading the team in both formats, with regular skipper Dane Van Niekerk being ruled out due to foot injury. The team has a blend of experienced campaigners & energetic newbies.
