India Squad for Australia & New Zealand | Dhoni Returns, Pandey Misses out

India Squad for Australia & New Zealand: The 2019 50-over World Cup is only 6 months away & teams are now trying to figure out the best combinations. After the 4-match test series against Australia, India play 3 ODIs against Australia & 5 against New Zealand. They also play 3 T20Is against the Kiwis between 6th-10th February. MS Dhoni returns to the squad, while his apprentice, Rishab Pant will miss the twin ODI series. Pant after the test series against Australia will play 5 List-A games against the England Lions from January 23rd.

Hardik Pandya and Kedar Jadhav have been declared fit & they make it to the squad. KL Rahul & Dinesh Karthik have also been included. Rahul’s form in the red-ball format has been abysmal but the Karnataka opener has piled up some stern numbers in the limited overs format, especially the shortest one. Karthik has been in decent form in the T20s but his one-day form has been questionable. Manish Pandey has been overlooked yet again after his stellar performances for India A.

The 16-member squad selected for the ODIs is probably the core team for the ICC World Cup which starts from May 30th. Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav & Ravindra Jadeja will be the three tweakers travelling with the team. Umesh Yadav doesn’t make the cut for both formats while Khaleel Ahmed has been the preferred left-armer.

Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey have been in superb form & they’ll stay positive as far as getting selected for the World Cup is concerned. Ajinkya Rahane & Ravi Ashwin, on the other hand, have feeble chances of getting back picked for the World tournament. Ambati Rayudu, Mohammad Shami & Ravindra Jadeja are a part of only the ODI squad.
