India vs Australia 1st T20I: Every team in World Cricket currently is formulating for the mega event come this June. The Aussies are waiting eagerly in anticipation for their two big match winners to return while team India is working vehemently to strike the right team combination. After a successful trip down under, the men in blue now host the lads from the Australian continent for a 2 T20I and a 5-match ODI series. Virat Kohli and Co. have displayed utter dominance in the 50-over and the 5-day formats, but the shortest format has tested them to the limit. India managed to draw the series 1-1 in Australia but were beaten comfortably by the Kiwis. How will this series pan out? There won’t be any shortage of drama, entertainment & certainly of high-quality cricket. Who will win this series opener?
India vs Australia 1st T20I
Venue: Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy Stadium, Visakhapatnam
Kick-Off Time: 7:00 pm IST
The series couldn’t have been timed better for the Australians. They are off of a successful Big Bash League and have the same squad for the T20Is and the ODIs. The Indians, on the other hand, have Jasprit Bumrah and skipper Virat Kohli returning to the squad.
The team combinations are likely to be tested, however. KL Rahul has returned to Indian squad after scoring runs for India A. It’ll be tough to choose between Rahul & Dinesh Karthik, but the later will probably make the squad considering his fine hitting form.
The Aussies have included the likes of D’Arcy Short and Kane Richardson. The team on paper seems extremely intimidating & the experience of playing the IPL would assuredly come in handy.
The Indians sent the Lankans packing for a mere 82 in the only T20 international played at this venue. The pitch here is a belter to bat on & the spinners have enjoyed a lot of success here in the domestic games. With Kuldeep Yadav out of the squad for the T20I series, Yuzvendra Chahal with his controlled leggies might trouble the Australian batters.
EXPECTED PLAYING XI
Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli(c), KL Rahul/Dinesh Karthik, MS Dhoni(wk), Rishabh Pant, Vijay Shankar, Krunal Pandya, Umesh Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah
Aaron Finch(c), D’Arcy Short, Peter Handscomb, Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Ashton Turner, Alex Carey(wk), Nathan Coulter-Nile, Pat Cummins, Adam Zampa, Kane Richardson
PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR
Rohit Sharma is undoubtedly the cleanest striker of the cricket ball in world cricket. The Mumbai dasher has been in tremendous form off-late and it’ll take a special effort from the Aussies to stop this marauder. Sharma in the recent T20 series against New Zealand became the highest run-getter in the shortest format going past New Zealand’s Martin Guptill. In the last 12 months, Sharma has scored runs in a heap. 679 runs at 35.73, 2 centuries and a brilliant strike-rate of 145.70.
Marcus Stoinis has evolved tremendously as a player. The all-rounder was phenomenal for the Melbourne Stars with the bat and his ability to switch gears make him a huge threat. Stoinis finished BBL with 533 runs at 53.30. His strike-rate of 130.63 shouldn’t be mistaken whatsoever. The Western Australian can smash the leather off the ball & his contribution with the white cherry can’t be undermined. Stoinis can bat at the top of the order, can blend in the middle and can close games with aplomb in the last stages of the game. Watch out for this heavy hitter.
