India vs Australia 2nd ODI: The 1st ODI between India & Australia at Hyderabad was reminiscent of the matches played in the late ’90s. The team batting first getting off to a decent start after the first 10 overs, trying to consolidating in the middle overs, accelerating in the death & the chasing team toiling hard to sneak past the line. Run-scoring has changed in the last decade and the men in blue in particular have scored 300 or more runs a record 57 times.
The turf in the 1st ODI was on the slower side and the batters needed to settle down, assess the pace of the pitch and then play their shots. The action moves to Nagpur for the 2nd ODI where run-making isn’t as tough. India chased down 350 here against Australia in 2013 and won the next game at this venue by 7 wickets against the same opponents. Australia have to pace their innings smartly and the onus of manoeuvring the game will fall entirely on the middle order. How will the Aussies retaliate?

INDIA vs AUSTRALIA 2nd ODI
When: 5th of March 2019, Tuesday
Where: Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur
Kick-Off Time: 1:30 PM IST
The New VCA stadium is the largest cricket ground in India, in terms of field area. The turf here is conducive for batting and anything less than 280 will be an easy target to chase. The teams batting first have only 2 games while the teams chasing have won 8 times. The average 1st innings score on this ground is 261 but that wouldn’t suffice when these two power-packed teams meet on Tuesday. Chasing has always been a successful option at this venue and the skipper who wins the toss will undoubtedly bat second.
MS Dhoni was at his masterly best yet again but the 37-year-old was struggling to scurry between the wickets due to a cramp. The former India skipper was seen batting without any issues and that’s a massive plus. Yuzvendra Chahal couldn’t make it to the playing eleven at Hyderabad. The supple leggie might replace the left-arm wrist spinner. KL Rahul will have to wait for his chance.
Shaun Marsh returns to the Aussie squad. The southpaw missed the first game and he’s all set to replace Ashton Turner. Marsh has been their main man in the last 12 months and with him in the squad, the middle-order looks more sturdy.
EXPECTED PLAYING XI FOR INDIA vs AUSTRALIA 2nd ODI
Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli(c), Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni(wk), Kedar Jadhav, Vijay Shankar, Mohammad Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal/Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah.
Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh, Peter Handscomb, Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Alex Carey(wk), Adam Zampa, Pat Cummins, Jason Behrendorff, Nathan Coulter-Nile.
PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR
Mohammad Shami has managed to keep Bhuvanesh Kumar on the bench. That’s probably the biggest compliment a pacer can get. Shami has reached a new level as far as dexterity with the new cherry in hand is concerned. The pacer has been in scintillating form this season & he’s skilful enough to extract movement off the track in every possible condition. At Hyderabad, he was unplayable in his first spell and finished off nicely in the last overs. Pace, Control, Swing and Lateral movement, Mohammad Shami has got it all. He’ll be the player to watch out for in the series and also in the upcoming world event.
Shami in the last 13 months has played 23 matches in all formats & has managed to pick 56 wickets. In the year 2019, he’s picked 18 wickets in 9 matches(all formats). The numbers aren’t even close to the best but the rhythm he’s been able to generate, he’s undoubtedly one of the finest in world cricket at the moment. Does he make it to your Fantasy Cricket XI?
