India vs Australia 3rd ODI | Fantasy Cricket Preview | 3-0 India or Can the Aussies Fight Back?

India vs Australia 3rd ODI: Virat Kohli scored his 40th ODI hundred and Vijay Shankar bowled a tight final over to see the men in blue take a 2-0 lead. The Aussies had the Indians on the mat yet again but failed to pin them down, yet again. The India batting line-up, on the other hand, struggled but the best batsman in the world was at the saviour for them for the umpteenth time. How good can Virat Kohli get & how good is Jasprit Bumrah? The Aussies were cruising and needed only 20 of the last 5 with 4 wickets intact. Bumrah bowled a stunner and validated his position as the world’s best.

The Aussies haven’t played badly, but to challenge a power-packed team like India, the narrowest of opportunities have to be grabbed with both hands. Australia didn’t capitalize after picking 4 Indian wickets for 100 in the 1st ODI and in the 2nd, they let Virat Kohli score freely while picking wickets at regular intervals. As it turned out, Kohli was the difference between the two teams. The opening stand, Peter Handscomb & Marcus Stoinis kept the Aussies in the hunt for the major part of the game but the scoreline after 2 games reads, 2-0, advantage India.

India went on to win their 500th ODI, becoming only the second team after Australia to reach that landmark. Can India seal the series on MS Dhoni’s home soil or will Australia pull out a rabbit of the hat?

India vs Australia 3rd ODI

When: 8th March, 1:00 PM, Friday

Where: JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi

The stadium is relatively bigger than the other grounds in terms of field area and spinners have an advantage at this venue. The track offers spin & turn and the team selection might be tweaked keeping this fact in mind. Who will extract more from this track & which team will show composure & solidity with the bat? The teams batting second have gone on to win 2 games out of 3 while defending on this ground hasn’t been the easiest.

The highest score at this venue: 295/8 by Aus vs Ind.

India are likely to have the very skilful Bhuvneshwar Kumar back in the squad for Mohammad Shami or Jasprit Bumrah. The rest of the squad is expected to remain the same.

Australia have to try & test a few options and get in the likes of Jhye Richardson & Jason Behrendorff. They are also likely to walk in with two spinners. Nathan Coulter-Nile has to be monitored with plenty of caution & his form before the Pakistan series will prove to be extremely critical.

Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli(c), Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni(wk), Kedar Jadhav, Vijay Shankar, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami/Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah

Usman Khawaja, Aaron Finch(c), Shaun Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, Peter Handscomb, Glenn Maxwell, Alex Carey(w), Nathan Coulter-Nile/Jhye Richardson, Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon, Adam Zampa

MS Dhoni can envisage the future. He reads games like no other. While his contribution with the bat might not be as explosive as before his presence out in the middle has certainly been a boon for India. There are very few batters in world cricket who can take the game down to the final over, toy around with the nerves of the crowd and then win the match with a cheeky arrogance. Dhoni averages 50.49 in ODIs and in the last 12 months, although his average has dropped down to 42.25 his ability to hold one end and let the others do the aggressive bit has worked like a dream.

Behind the stumps, there’s no keeper who can match his swiftness. Dhoni’s dismissals/innings is a high 1.295 and since March 2018, that stat has gone up to 1.363. Dhoni was dismissed off the very first ball in the 2nd ODI but he’s one player who’s bound to come good on almost every occasion. MS Dhoni will be the player to watch out for from the blue corner. Does MSD make it to your fantasy cricket team on FanFight?

Pat Cummins was the pick of the bowlers from the Aussie line-up and how good an all-rounder is he turning out to be. Brilliant performances in the test matches down under were a testament to his abilities and in the shorter formats, he’ll be a force to reckon with. Cummins finished with figures of 9-2-29-4 and hurried Rohit Sharma eventually dismissing him for a blob. The pacy all-rounder can clock over 90 miles/hour on a regular basis & in Ranchi where the conditions aren’t as conducive, he’ll still be a handful to deal with. Cummins has played only 44 ODIs so far and with the mega event lurking around, he’ll definitely want to warm his bowling muscles up.
