IPL 2018 | MATCH 31 | RCB vs MI | FANFIGHT PREVIEW

RCB vs MI: “The idea of redemption is always good, even if it means sacrifice or some difficult times”. After 7 games, the 3-time IPL champions and the defending champions Mumbai Indians have plenty to ponder about. They’ve got to win every game hereafter to stand a chance of making it to the playoffs. A positive though has to be their impressive win against the Chennai Super Kings. Here’s how the table can be summed up. CSK and SRH need only one win to confirm their playoff participation. KXIP are currently 3rd on the table with 10 points. They need a couple of victories to make it to the final four. Now, for the fourth spot, KKR, RR, MI and RCB have to do battle. The winner of RCB vs MI will be in the race for the top 4.

RCB’S MISERY

RCB have been a two-man team. Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers are world-class players. There’s no denying the fact, but cricket is ultimately a team game. The entire team has to work in tandem to win games. For RCB though, it’s either Kohli or De Villiers who always anchor their ship. The team hasn’t found the right combination yet. Also, defeats don’t help retain the same team, which in turn disturbs the whole balance of the unit. RCB have registered 4 points in 7 games and with a -0.447 run-rate are 7th on the table. Their competitors a close 6th, but with a positive 0.033 run-rate. RCB vs MI, the battle for redemption is on.

At the Chinnaswamy Stadium, MI have absolutely battered RCB. In the 8 games played, Mumbai have gone on to win 7. Dominance. In the reverse fixture this year at the Wankhede, Mumbai posted 213/6 and won that game comfortably by 46 runs. Rohit Sharma scored a scintillating 94 while Kohli’s unbeaten 92 was deemed futile.

PITCH CONDITIONS

The track at Chinnaswamy is an absolute belter to bat on. The smaller boundaries also work in the batsman’s favour. 4 games have been played at this venue this year and the total of 200 was breached 3 times. Bengaluru have won 2 and lost 2. The turf is bound to get slower as the tournament progresses but for this fixture, it’ll remain a batting paradise. Win the toss and bowl first.

TEAM NEWS

Viral fever kept AB De Villiers out of the last game against KKR. For this fixture, RCB would want their talisman to be a 100% fit. His inclusion isn’t certain yet.

Manan Vohra didn’t trouble the scorers in the previous game and it’ll only be helpful if RCB strengthen their bowling attack. Washington Sundar is the likely replacement.

Ben Cutting was included in the team for Mustafizur but didn’t get to do much. The left-arm pacer is expected to replace the Aussie all-rounder.

PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR

QABALISTIC QUINTON

Quinton De Kock has got off to a start in every game this season but not one has he converted into an 80 or a 90 or even a hundred. De Kock has the ability to bat swiftly and bat long. In his last 6 innings, he’s scored 45, 26, 19, 18, 53, 29. He’s scored 3 T20 hundreds, one of them an IPL hundred. RCB don’t have a stable bowling attack and at the Chinnaswamy, no target is a match-winning target; especially against the Mumbai Indians who have a strong batting line-up.

IPL – Matches 33, Runs  920, Average 28.75, Strike-rate 131.80. His career strike-rate in T20’s is 134.32 and the average is slightly better at 32.24. De Kock likes pace and bounce but the Indian conditions, mostly don’t provide that. He’s a star batter and at the top of the order, will be the man to watch out for.

POWERHOUSE PANDYA

Hardik Pandya in the last year and a half has upped his game to a nicety. You hear the commentators gush praises for the hard-hitting right-hander, but he hasn’t lived up to all the hype. MI retained Pandya for a whopping 11 crore because the versatility he brings to a squad was is pretty rare. However, in the matches he’s played, he hasn’t fired at all.

His highest score in the IPL this year has been 22* and with his ability, he’s expected to pile up more runs. With the ball, he’s been decent. 8 wickets in 6 games with an economy of 8.64. He’s presumably the next big thing in Indian cricket. He thrives on confidence and for his team to reach the top 4, Pandya has a huge role to play. Watch out for this dasher for today’s game.

WHO WILL WIN RCB vs MI?

MI have a jaw-dropping record at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. After a win in the previous game, they’ll be more determined to make it to the top 4. Also, MI are the defending champions. They’ll have an added motivation to come out all guns blazing. RCB have relied way too much on Kohli and De Villiers to come up with the goods every time and those are ominous signs for their unit. In the death overs, RCB have conceded 13.18 runs. Those numbers ought to change if they’re defending and also if they bowl first. MI walk in with a much-balanced unit and for this fixture, RCB vs MI, MI are the favourites.
