IPL 2018 | MATCH 36 | SRH vs DD | FANFIGHT PREVIEW

IPL 2018 | MATCH 36 | SRH vs DD | FANFIGHT PREVIEW

The Sunrisers have failed to touch the 180 mark so far this IPL. Yet, they sit atop the table with 6 wins from 8 games. And this they have done in the absence of their lead bowler for four of the games! Delhi, on the other hand, have gone past 180 in four of their eight completed innings. Their top batsman is in contention to win the Orange Cap and their new captain has scored 4 half centuries in his last five innings. Yet, they have won just 3 games out of 9 and are staring at another early exit from the tournament. SRH vs DD is a clash of the top half against the bottom half.

STADIUM AND PITCH CONDITIONS

Batting first in a night game at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium has just yielded scores of 126, 150 and 132 this season. The surface has been slow and is expected to remain the same, and so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the team decides to take first strike after winning the toss.

TEAM NEWS

SUNRISERS HYDERABAD

Sunrisers Hyderabad have rather surprisingly done better this season in the absence of Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. With Bhuvi in the squad, SRH picked up a wicket at an average of 27.74 runs per wicket. Without Bhuvi in the squad, the average comes down to almost 14 runs per wicket! A call will be taken on his fitness on match day, and if fit, he will be straight swap with Basil Thampi, who in fact has done well in the limited opportunities he got.

Though Sid Kaul has been the leading wicket taker for the squad, Sandeep Sharma has been a revelation since he was drafted in to the playing XI. With an economy of just over 4 with the new ball in addition to his 5 wickets, Sandeep Sharma has been a revelation for SRH. Add to this, the guile and wile of Rashid Khan, and it will come as no surprise that SRH sit atop the table despite having the worst batting numbers in the tournament.

Hales, who finally got a game after sitting out for the first 7 games, is expected to retain his spot alongside Dhawan at the top of the order.

DELHI DAREDEVILS

The Daredevils have shown fresh energy under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer and have won 2 of their last 3 games. However, the slow start to the tournament means that DD cannot afford any more slip-ups. Rishabh Pant is in the running for highest run-getter, while Shreyas Iyer and Prithvi Shaw have impressed many at the top of the order.

Time may be running out for Glenn Maxwell in the middle order, but he is expected to keep his spot for the time being while Plunkett, Boult and Munro will take the remaining 3 spots. Jason Roy is expected to sit out.

ALL ROUNDER

SHAKIB AL-ROUNDER HASAN

The former Bangladeshi skipper has been an unsung performer so far for the Sunrisers Hyderabad team. Asked to bowl in the Powerplay and against big hitters, the Bangladeshi has held his nerve well and picked up 8 wickets at an economy 7.2 per over. Batting in the middle order, Shakib also averages 24.60 with the willow in his hand, which makes him an attractive pick for the Fantasy League

BATSMEN

WILL HE BE DHA-WAN?

Shikhar Dhawan started of the IPL in belligerent fashion scoring an unbeaten 78 and 45 in the first two matches. However, he just scored 29 runs in his last five innings, and has looked tentative after he suffered a blow to his elbow against the Kings XI Punjab.

However, Dhawan is an experienced campaigner and has showcased his ability to bounce back on several instances in the past. He will be up against the Purple Cap holder, Trent Boult, against whom he scores at a strike rate of 141. In 8 overs against Dhawan, Boult has dismissed the opener just once in all T20s.

SHAWWWT!!!

After leading his country to the U19 World Cup, Prithvi Shaw has been making waves in the last few months. He had to wait to get his chance for the Daredevils, but once the opportunity came knocking, there was no letting go! In 4 games, Shaw has scored 140 runs at a staggering strike rate of 166, and it would not be beyond him to take the attack to the best bowling unit in the tournament!

BOWLER

RASHID CAN?

In a team dominated by the pacers, Rashid Khan has managed to carve a spot for himself as a superstar! After being carted around the park in two games, Rashid came back strongly and has 10 wickets to his credit. Glenn Maxwell has an ordinary record against leg spinners, and it will be interesting to keep an eye on this battle between the Afghan and the Aussie.

SUPERB SANDEEP

In four games so far, Sandeep Sharma has figures of 15-0-66-5 – absolutely stunning numbers in a game dominated by short boundaries and big bats! Shreyas Iyer is the big fish in Delhi’s middle order and history shows that Sandeep has always enjoyed bowling to him. In 19 deliveries, Sandeep has dismissed Iyer thrice and bowled 16 dot balls. Definitely a contest to watch out for!

WICKETKEEPER:

PANT – THE ULTIMATE PACKAGE!

You could be forgiven for not remembering Rishabh Pant’s age after watching him bat! The 19 year old, in his last two innings has scored 148 runs at a strike rate of 200, and winning the Orange Cap in the process. Pant, who finished as the highest run getter in the domestic T20 tournament before the IPL, has established himself as the #4 in the Delhi middle-order ahead of Maxwell owing to consistent performances, and is an automatic pick in our Fantasy League squad.

HEAD TO HEAD

Sunrisers have a 6-4 record against the Daredevils, and are yet to lose a game defending a target this season. On the other hand, Delhi have faltered in 4 of their chases. A loss in Hyderabad may confirm Delhi’s exit from the tournament. Given SRHs home form (1 loss in 18 games) and the return of Bhuvneshwar to the line-up, my punt is on SRH continuing their impressive run in the tournament.
