The second clash on the IPL Super Sunday sees KXIP vs RR in action at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. Both teams come in to the game to set their season back on track after two successive losses in their last two games.
The Punjab team looked a totally different unit following their seven-day break and were beaten by Mumbai Indians in their last encounter. Meanwhile, Rajasthan have suffered two consecutive defeats after their break. A win in this game will strengthen KXIPs position in the top half of the table while RR now need to string together a winning streak if they are to progress further.
HEAD TO HEAD
In their 15 encounters so far, the Royals have gotten the better out of the Kings nine times. This season, this is their first clash before the teams meet again in three days time at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium.
STADIUM AND PITCH CONDITIONS
The Holkar Stadium in Indore is KXIPs home for the second phase of this tourney. Despite having a wicket that could keep the ball low and slow, the small boundaries ensure that the runs keep flowing. The venue has been a host to six IPL games in the past, and the team batting second has won each of those games.
Win the toss, field first is going to be the mantra at this venue.

KINGS XI PUNJAB
Kings XI Punjab had won five of their first six games, but ended up losing their last two. This leaves them with a lot of work left to qualify for the playoffs. Barring Chris Gayle and KL Rahul at the top of the order, the rest of the team haven’t contributed enough, and this has left KXIP with some questions to answer.
Yuvraj Singh was brought back in to the playing XI, but he never looked comfortable during his stay at the crease and eventually ran himself out. The management might opt to give Manoj Tiwary a longer run, and this would mean Yuvraj would have to sit out. The poor form of Finch gave Stoinis his second opportunity to cement a place in the final XI, and he grabbed it with both hands smashing 20 runs of the last over against MI. The smaller size of the ground may also tempt the management to drop Axar Patel for a medium pacer, most likely, Mohit Sharma
The Royals who began the tournament as one of the favorites have failed to live up to their billing and find themselves at the bottom of the table after the halfway stage! The bowling has been Royals’ biggest concern having picked the lowest wickets so far amongst the other teams. Against DD, the Royals conceded 196 in 18 overs, and they may look to include Ben Laughlin to keep a check on the scores alongside Archer.
D’Arcy Short, though he made 43 including scoring three consecutive sixes, looked really unsettled at the crease, and may make way for Laughlin. Time is running out for both Stokes and Unadkat, the two costliest picks in the auction, to prove why they were being paid what they are! Jos Buttler, who struck an 18 ball fifty against MI, is expected to keep his position at the top of the order.

Stokes has shown everyone what he is capable of when in flow! This season, he is yet to get going having scored only 148 runs in eight games. In addition, he’s just picked up 1 wicket so far. However, Stokes, on his day, is capable of demolishing the bowling attack, score quickfire centuries and pluck blinders from thin air! The law of averages suggests that a big Ben Stokes day is around the corner, and that day could well be tonight
With over 10,000 runs in the format and 3928 runs in the IPL alone, Gayle is undoubtedly one of the modern legends of the game. There is no ground in the world that is big for Chris Gayle, but the fact that the dimensions of the ground in Indore is smaller just works to the favor of Gayle. He has already been involved in 5 consecutive 50+ partnerships with KL Rahul and as long as KXIP continue playing at the Holkar Stadium, Gayle will continue to remain an automatic pick in my fantasy league teams.
Agarwal hit the purplest of patches this season in domestic cricket. However, he is yet to translate that form to the IPL. Batting at #3 in almost every game, Mayank would be disappointed to have a highest score of just 30 so far. However, he enjoys the confidence of the KXIP management and will be looking for a big score that could just cement his place at the top of the order.
Dhawal Kulkarni, who has been disappointing so far, is our budget pick of the day. The Maharashtrian bowler enjoys a good record against the KXIP batsmen. He has dismissed Chris Gayle and Lokesh Rahul thrice each in 54 balls bowled to them and the Royals will be looking at Kulkarni to provide the start they need
Having turned 17 just before the IPL began, the Afghan spinner bowls with the wile and guile of an experienced campaigner. Zadran’s economy in T20s is astonishingly less than 7, and has picked up 9 wickets this IPL and has always done the job that his skipper required him to do – with the new ball or the old.
Buttler was having an ordinary IPL until he was asked to open the innings in the last game against Delhi Daredevils. He smashed 66 of just 27 balls, and might have just cemented his place at the top of the order. Historically, Buttler opened the innings for Mumbai Indians in last year’s IPL and for Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League, where he averages over 30 at a strike rate of 165+ compared to an average of 22 at 130+ in the middle order.
