IPL 2018 | MATCH 55 | DD vs MI | FANFIGHT | FANTASY CRICKET PREVIEW

DD vs MI: Three teams have already qualified for the IPL playoffs. The top 3 places have been taken by SRH, CSK and KKR. While the top 2 spots can be altered between Hyderabad and Chennai, it’s certain that Kolkata have taken the 3rd spot. However, for the 4th place, MI and KXIP will do battle. All MI have to do is win this fixture. Their run-rate of +0.384 is the best for the season and a victory here will assure them the 4th spot. DD vs MI will be the penultimate league fixture of the 11th edition of the pompous tournament.

If MI lose, RR will go through making KXIPs chances of qualifying absolutely redundant. KXIP have to win their game against CSK by a colossal margin which is unlikely to happen.

YET ANOTHER BOTTOM-PLACED SEASON

Delhi have played all the seasons of the IPL so far. They’ve qualified for the playoffs only thrice. The last time being the 2012 season. Astonishingly they’ve finished rock-bottom 4 times. After a complete refurbishment of their squad, a better place on the points table was expected but DD weren’t able to keep up with the other teams. They’ve had brilliant individual performers in Rishab Pant and Shreyas Iyer but as a collective unit, they’ve struggled to yield positive results. They can be the party-spoilers for the Indians, but have they the quality to dismantle the men in blue? DD vs MI is going to be yet another cracker of a contest.

In the reverse DD vs MI fixture this year, DD got the better of Mumbai at the Wankhede. The Delhi boys chased down a huge 195 set by MI. Jason Roy, the architect on that occasion. Roy scored an unbeaten 91. Although since then, he hasn’t been a significant contributor.

VENUE: THE FEROZ SHAH KOTLA, DELHI

PITCH CONDITIONS

The turf at the Kotla has been slow but has been a batting paradise. The pitch hit its optimum best between the 2nd and the 5th T20 played this IPL, but in the previous game showed signs of slowing down yet again. The dimensions of the ground aren’t massive either. That being said, 4 times the team batting first has won 4 times. Delhi have been better chasers while their bowling has taken a real pounding when they’ve tried to defend. Both teams are all set to go full-throttle. Since it’s a day/night game batting will get easier as the game progresses. Win the toss and bowl first on this wicket.

TEAM NEWS

Delhi beat CSK in their previous game and are likely to remain unchanged. They’d be rather hoping for the game to finish and put an end to a miserable season.

MI have won 5 out of their last 7 fixtures. They also are known to not tweak much with the playing eleven. Mumbai’s last outing was a successful 3-run defence against KXIP and they’re expected to field the same eleven.

PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR

RISHAB PANT

Pant is the front-runner for the emerging player of the year. He’s miles ahead of the other contenders and how well has he done. He’s been a regular run-getter in all the formats of the game but in T20s, he seems to hit another gear. Pant has done the bulk of the scoring for DD this season. He’s amassed 620 runs in 13 games. That’s 34.2% of the runs Delhi have managed to score through the entire season. Last year Pant did show glimpses of what he’s capable of but he wasn’t able to finish games for DD. This year he’s batted with maturity, finesse and well, the power has always been there. Against MI, the local lad will yet again be Delhi’s main man. The minute Delhi boundaries will be toyed around with. The scary bit; he’s only 19.

Bumrah has been Pant’s nemesis. The Indian pacer has dismissed Rishab Pant 3 times in the 11 deliveries he’s bowled at him. Pant vs Bumrah will be one exciting battle to look forward to.

SURYA KUMAR YADAV

He was acquired by the Mumbai Indians for 3.2 crores and how well has he responded. We were all aware that Surya Kumar Yadav can bat, but he’s raised his game to another level this season. It was this reverse fixture where was sent to open the batting alongside Evin Lewis. He grabbed the opportunity with both hands and has never looked back since. Yadav is MIs highest run-getter with 500 runs in 13 games. He averages 38.46 and strikes decently at 131.57. The most impressive bit about his batting has been his ability to hit the ball straight. Be it spinners or pacers, Yadav has on-driven with a lot of class. The pickup shot over backward-of-square has always been his go-to shot. Can he set up another strong base at the start for MI?

On FanFight Yadav costs a mere 8.2. Rishab Pant, on the other hand, is priced at 9.6. FanFight thinks they’ll be the game changers in the DD vs MI fixture. What do you think? Do they make the cut in your fantasy cricket team?
