Khulna Tigers vs Rajshahi Royals | KT vs RR | Fantasy Cricket Preview | BPL 2019

KT vs RR: The BCB gave the franchise model a pause this year. What does this mean? Well, the BCB essentially owns all seven teams this season, but it has allowed a majority of the teams’ sponsors to take control of team management, financial and logistical responsibilities. The decision did receive a lot of criticism but the commitment was made keeping in mind the 2020 T20I World Cup. Learning from the overseas’ quicks & unearthing quality leg spinners has been deemed the primary motive. But will this strategy pay off?

Drama’s not safe & it’s not pretty & it’s not kind. T20 cricket is the absolute same. The Bangladesh Premier League 2019 after all the hullabaloo it caused has arrived and the athletes have begun their relentless quest for the coveted title.

The 9th league fixture of the Bangladesh Premier League will feature the Khulna Tigers & the Rajshahi Royals. Both teams have won their respective games so far. The Royals have played 2 & were at their clinical best in both fixtures, while the Tigers beat the Challengers comprehensively by 8 wickets. Liton Das has been in some nifty form for the Royals. The right-hander scored a classy 36 in the teams’ 1st win & took his team through in the 2nd with an unbeaten 44. Alok Kapali, the old warhorse chipped in with a 3-for & Ravi Bopara looks as fit as a fiddle. For the Tigers, Rilee Rossouw smashed a 38-ball 64 helping his team chase down 146 at a canter. In 13.5 overs. Their run-rate after the win, a positive 3.354.

As far the head-to-head record between these two teams is concerned, the Khulna Tigers are marginally ahead by 4-3. The last time these two teams met, the Royals finished second-best in a low-scoring encounter. The Tigers won that game by 25 runs.

The names have changed. The Titans are now called ‘Tigers’, the Kings are addressed as the ‘Royals’. But the rationale remains the same. Who will come out on top when these two quality teams lock horns?

 When: 17th December 2019, Tuesday

Where: Zahoor Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram

Kick-Off: 1:00 PM, IST

The venue has hosted 47 T20 games & the average 1st innings scoring rate is a healthy 8.2. 24 games have been won by the teams batting first & teams chasing have won 23 times.

Right-arm pacers have dismissed more batsmen than any other bowling breed. 263 wickets @ an average of 28. However, they also concede the most runs per over(8.5). The left-arm tweakers have been the most successful stock. They’ve picked 95 wickets @ 21.1 & they’ve conceded an aggregate of 7.3 runs/over so far.

Chasing has been the norm in modern cricket & in the league after 8 games, 5 matches have been won by the team batting 2nd. The captain winning the toss will almost certainly opt to bowl first.

 Captaincy Picks

 Liton Das (Rajshahi Royals)

Das is arguably one of the sweetest timers of the cricket ball & after two positive starts in the first two games, he’ll be a player to watch out for. He scored 36 in the first game against Dhaka Platoon & curated a fine 44* versus the Sylhet Thunder in the second. His strike-rates in those two games – 144.44 & 169.23 respectively. Liton Das’ average isn’t phenomenal in the T20 format but in the last 12 months, the right-hander has upped his game a notch. Das has all the talent in the world & the only area he needs to work on is his temperament. A more sturdy & a pugnacious Das is almost impossible to beat. His balls/boundary ratio in the BPL is 5.9 & his over-all strike-rate in the league is an adequate 122.1.

The opener is also known to pace his innings to a nicety. His strike-rate after the first 10 runs remains above 130 & it goes over 150 after 30 runs. His dot ball % also falls down to 21.4. Liton Das is a proven match-winner & he can be the perfect choice to lead your fantasy cricket teams.

Rilee Rossouw (Khulna Tigers)

From the Tigers’ corner, one batsman who can absolutely smash the leather off the ball & score consistently is Rilee Rossouw. The southpaw will be a compelling pick in your fantasy cricket teams. In the Bangladesh Premier League Rossouw averages 47.59, the highest for batsmen who’ve batted at least 25 times. His strike-rate is a hefty 146.6 & he’s one of only 13 cricketers to have scored a ton in the BPL. Tigers started off their 2019/20 campaign with a win & Rossouw’s 64* off 38 earned him the player of the match.

Rossouw’s major run-scoring shots are the on-drive, the straight drive, the slog sweep and the pull-shot. His strike-rates whilst executing these shots are 200, 345, 369.2 & 192.7.

Taijul Islam (Rajshahi Royals)

Taijul Islam in the two completed T20s didn’t complete his full quota of overs but the left-arm tweaker has all the quality in the world the to disrupt the best stroke-makers. Since 2015, Taijul has registered some noteworthy numbers. He’s played 51 T20 games, picked 42 wickets & his economy-rate is a miserly 7.2. He’ll be up against the likes of Rilee Rossouw, Mushfiqur Rahim & Rahmanullah Gurbaz but the left-armer is dextrous enough to contain them. In the BPL, Taijul has dismissed 33 right-handed batters & 15 southpaws. He’s done this with a stirring dot ball % of 42.5.

Fantasy XI

Liton Das(wk), Afif Hossain, Hazratullah Zazai, Rilee Rossouw, Najmul Hossain, Ravi Bopara, Andre Russell, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Abu Jayed, Mohammad Amir.
