MI vs RCB: It took RCB 6 defeats to finally register their first victory in this season of the IPL against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on Saturday and the team will look to carry on the winning momentum in their next game against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Monday.
Mumbai Indians, who are currently placed 3rd in the IPL standings had a disappointing previous game, after they lost to Rajasthan Royals, on Saturday. Their loss, though by a narrow margin, might’ve impacted their confidence, as they tasted defeat from a team which is struggling to stay afloat in the tournament with just 2 wins in their kitty out of 7 games.
For Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), their previous game will surely be a major motivating factor, as it was dubbed as a complete team effort, with some stellar performances coming in from their all-time star batsmen, Virat Kohli (67 off 53) and AB de Villiers (59* off 38), complemented by a good display of performance from the bowlers as well. To further reinforce their bowling unit, RCB has roped-in Dale Steyn into their team and his inclusion would surely mean more trouble for the opposition, who will support Yuzvendra Chahal, who is without question one of the best bowlers for RCB this season.
Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, also look like a formidable side with consistent performances from Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock, along with some strong contributions coming from Kieron Pollard & Hardik Pandya. However, MI might be a tad bit concerned when they shift their focus on their bowling unit as only Jasprit Bumrah & Krunal Pandya have been consistent with their performances, while the rest still have to up their game. Also, since the Wankhede Stadium is known to be a batsman’s favourite ground, Rohit will want his brigade to up the ante.
The home team may include Lasith Malinga in-place of injured Alzarri Joseph. The opening pair will remain the same with Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock setting the momentum right with Suryakumar Yadav coming in at number 3. With Ishan Kishan failing to perform in the middle order, the onus will be on Pollard and Hardik Pandya to support the team in the middle order. As far as their bowling is concerned, Bumrah, Behrendorff and Malinga will handle the seam attack while Krunal Pandya and Rahul Chahar will be the spin force.
Probable XI: Quinton de Kock (WK), Rohit Sharma (C), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Rahul Chahar, Jason Behrendorff, Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah
Royal Challengers Bangalore
RCB will look to continue with almost the same team, where the only change could be the inclusion of Washington Sundar replacing Pawan Negi. Captain Virat Kohli and Parthiv Patel will open the innings with AB de Villiers and Moeen Ali supporting their middle order. For their bowling, they would still have to wait for Dale Steyn to join their squad, as he’s going to be available from April 16th and hence, they will look to have the same combination with Mohammed Siraj, Navdeep Saini and Umesh Yadav forming their pace attack and Yuzvendra Chahal handling the spin department.
Probable XI: Parthiv Patel (WK), Virat Kohli (C, AB de Villiers, Marcus Stoinis, Moeen Ali, Akshdeep Nath, Washington Sundar, Umesh Yadav, Navdeep Saini, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammed Siraj
The stats between RCB and MI seem one-sided, with one team claiming lot more victories than the other. RCB faced MI 26 times and could manage to win just 9 times out of all those encounters, giving away 17 wins to MI’s account. The difference reduces drastically when seeing their head-to-head performance on the Wankhede ground, with the hosts winning just a few more games than RCB. Out of the total 8 encounters at Wankhede Stadium, MI won 5, while RCB won 3.
The matches at Wankhede stadium have all been high scoring ones. Even the last encounter there saw both team scoring runs north of 180. Lately, the pitch has favoured those batting first, with the recent two games being won by the team that batted first. However, traditionally batting second has been the ideal choice.
The temperature in Mumbai is speculated to be hovering around the 34-degree mark in the day, with humidity at 57%. Towards the evening, the temperature is slated to fall to 28 degrees. It would be cloudy; however, the chances of rain are assumed to be very slim.
