New Zealand vs Sri Lanka | T20I | Match Preview & Fantasy Tips

New Zealand vs Sri Lanka: It has been a disappointing tour for the Islanders till now. They showed some resilience in the test series but were thoroughly outplayed by the white ferns in the 3 match ODI series. They have one last opportunity to salvage some pride if they win the only T20 international to be played at Eden Park tomorrow.

Ground Updates

The last time Eden Park hosted a T20 international 488 runs were scored in 40 overs. Australia and New Zealand the two teams on that occasion. Sri Lanka have played two T20I at this venue (2006, 2016) and finished second best both times.

Eden Park has been a batting paradise. The average score for the team batting first has been around 182  and 154 for the teams chasing since 2015.

Team News

James Neesham the star all-rounder in the ODI series will not play due to a hamstring strain. Doug Bracewell has been included as his replacement in the 13 member squad.

Danuskha Gunathilaka is set to miss the match as he sustained a back injury in the final ODI. Tim Southee has been handed over the Captain’s responsibility in absence of Kane Williamson.

Mitchell Santner is available for selection after he recovered from the knee surgery that kept him away from Cricket for almost 8 months.

Fantasy Team for this match

Bowlers

On this ground, right arm pacers have the best strike rate but the leg break bowlers have been more economical and are not far behind the right arm pacers in terms of wicket taking ability.

*The above table shows the performance of players who played in this ground from 2015

From the above two tables, we can clearly infer that left arm orthodox and leg break bowlers should be must pick in your fantasy team. the records say Tim Southee has not performed well but given his experience and a not a strong Sri Lankan batting lineup who are out of confidence he can be an alternative option.

Since 2016, Lasith Malinga the Lankan skipper has averaged a wicket every 10 deliveries in T20Is. He’s a death over specialist known for his wiley variations and yorkers.

Batsmen

At this venue, the best batting position has been the top four. Number one and two batting positions have a dismissal rate of 28.1 and 21.7 respectively.

From the above graph, we can clearly infer that Martin Guptill, Kusal Perera, Ross Taylor and Dinesh Chandimal are the top batsmen to pick in your fantasy team.

All-Rounders

In the all-rounder’s category there are a lot of options but based on recent performance Colin Munro and Thisera Perera are the top picks.

Although Mitchell Santner is also not a bad option we are not sure whether he will play in tomorrow’s match.

Wicket-keeper

In the wicket-keeper category, Niroshan Dickwella looks a good option over Tim Seifert.
