Poonam Yadav Decoded?: The Indian ladies have made it to the World Cup semi-finals for the 4th time & Poonam Yadav has been one of the most significant performers for the ladies in blue. Is she a mystery spinner? Has she got plenty of variations? Is she quick through the air or across the turf? If you’ve seen her bowl, you’d rather giggle at the thought of her being quick through the air. Yadav after 4 T20 World Cup games is the leading wicket-taker & she’s got a golden opportunity to challenge Anya Shrubsole’s tally of 13 in the year 2014.

It’s fair to admit that the supple Indian leggie is a magician & her record over the last two years in T20Is is a testament to her great wicket-taking ability. But have the girls decrypted Yadav’s sorcery? Here’s why I have come to this conclusion.
Against New Zealand in India’s 3rd group stage game, Yadav had only conceded only 14 off her 3 overs, she’d also picked an all-important scalp of Sophie Devine(albeit off a full-toss)& was handed the 19th over. Amelia Kerr was at the striker’s end & the Kiwis has 34 to chase down off 12 deliveries. Kerr, also of the same breed, had an arduous task to help her team win 2 crucial points. The Kiwi all-rounder adapted to a ploy never seen before. What does she do to tackle the dextrous Yadav? She waits & waits(for an eternity almost), swivels on to the back foot & smashes one over the fielder at 45. This was done twice yielding her & her side 8 crucial runs. Yadav was also hoicked over the cover fielders & the leggie ended up conceding 18 runs off the penultimate over.
Have the teams cracked Poonam Yadav’s code or will the benevolent seeming leg break bowler go berserk in the semis? Will the teams resort to switching back and smashing Poonam over short leg? Kerr has released this idea into the cricketing world. All we’ve got to see is how India’s leading wicket-taker retaliates.
India has won all 4 group stage games & in the semi’s they’re likely to go against England. A repeat of the 2018 semi-finals. Yadav will be up against a sturdy English batting line-up against whom Yadav averages 30(her least) & strikes every 30 deliveries(again, her least). It’s that time of the tournament where the margin for an error is at its absolute minimum & team India will surely count on its wristy wizard.
