Shaw & Samson Replace Dhawan: India’s prime opener Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the New Zealand tour. The attacking batsman will be replaced by Prithvi Shaw in ODIs & Sanju Samson in T20Is. Shaw who smashed a hundred on Test debut has been in the reckoning since, but injuries plagued his opportunities & a certain Mayank Agarwal made proper use of the chances handed to him. Sanju Samson was introduced in the T20I against Sri Lanka but was ousted for the 3-match ODI series against Australia.
As far as the form of the entrants is considered, Shaw recently smashed a 100-ball 150(22 fours & 2 sixes) against New Zealand XI at Lincoln and the 20-year old had smashed a double hundred for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy a couple of weeks before. Samson has been smashing the selectors’ door for quite some time & his inclusion in the T20I squad for the New Zealand tour can only be deemed deserving. Both Shaw & Samson might be confined to the reserves or might well get an opportunity to display their well-known ability.
