Smriti Mandhana signs for Hobart Hurricanes | Kaur stays with Thunders | Report

Smriti Mandhana signs for Hobart Hurricanes: India’s power hitting duo of Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur will feature in the 4th edition of the Women’s Big Bash League. Kaur decided to stay with Sydney Thunders for her 3rd successive season, while Smriti Mandhana will play for the Hobart Hurricanes. The left-hander previously played for Brisbane Heat.

SMRITI MANDHANA IN WWT20 2018

Mandhana had a brilliant T20 World Cup in West Indies, finishing 3rd on the list of highest run-getters. Mandhana’s ability to strike clean, her natural quality to tonk pacers all over the park does make her a positive inclusion. Smriti scored a brilliant 83 off 55 balls against Australia in the group stages but her effort in the semi-finals against England wasn’t enough to team India home. WHAT SMRITI MANDHANA HAD TO SAY

Mandhana said she was looking forward to her stint with the Hobart Hurricanes. In an interview, she said – “I’ve heard from many players that the Hurricanes group is a great squad to be around and I can’t wait to get to Tasmania for the matches,”. Hobart Hurricanes’ coach Salliann Briggs said that she was delighted with the new signing. She said, “Mandhana is a proven performer on the world stage, we saw that just last week with her knock against the Aussies,”. “I can’t wait to see her in purple, she’s an exciting addition not only for us but for the whole competition.”

Mandhana scored 421 runs in 9 innings in the Kia Super League 2018. She averaged 60.14 with a phenomenal strike-rate of 174.68 & smashed 21 sixes in the tournament – the most by any batter.
