West Indies vs India: With the first ODI between India and West Indies getting washed out, both the teams will be hoping to get a full-innings play in the 2nd ODI. The match is scheduled to be played on Sunday, August 11 at the Queen’s Park Oval stadium. India, after having conquered the T20 series against the Windies, will look to win yet another series here, and add another feather to their hat. This is a must-win game for both the teams, as a win here will ensure that they would not lose the 3-match series.
WHAT HAPPENED IN THE 1st ODI…
The first ODI could only give a glimpse of India’s bowling attack against the West Indies’ batting. With only 13 overs being bowled in the match, there was not much to take away from it. However, the Indian strike bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammad Shami looked terrific in their individual spells. Bhuvi bowled 4 overs and gave away 11 runs with 1 maiden over, while Shami bowled 3 and only conceded 5 runs at an impressive economy of 1.67. There were a total of 5 bowlers who were tested in the 13-over innings, out of which, it was a bad outing for the young left-arm pacer, Khaleel Ahmed. In his 3-overs spell, he conceded 27 runs. For West Indies, Evin Lewis looked good, after staying unbeaten at 40(36). Chris Gayle had an early exit, after a deadly slow inning of 4(31).
India will look to take a fresh start in the ODIs after a disappointing semi-final loss in the 2019 world cup. The batting, with the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli looks formidable, and with Shikhar Dhawan back in the playing XI, the opening looks sorted.
West Indies on the other hand who are winless till now in this tournament, will look to seal this game on a positive note. However, it is certainly a daunting task. The Windies have incurred 6 ODI defeats in the last 7 matches at the Queen’s Park Oval, out of which 4 losses came against India. Jason Holder and co will look to come back to winning ways and they will be keen to give a strong challenge to the men in blue.

PITCH AND CONDITIONS
It is after almost two years that Queen’s Park Oval will host an ODI match. In fact, the stadium could only manage to host 1 full ODI since July 2013. On the whole, a total of 62 matches have been played here, out of which 33 were won by the team batting first. Considering the current game between India and the West Indies, there is a strong possibility of rain and it is expected to shower heavily from 2 pm and 4 pm. Looking at the conditions, it is safe to say that the team batting second will have an advantage.
The Windies will look to play with the same team that played the first ODI. Chris Gayle, who had a rather unusual knock of 4(31) would want to ruffle his feathers and start afresh. Evin Lewis bounced back to form which is a big respite for the Caribbeans. He would look to put up a good score on the board and give the head start to the team. As for bowling, Caribbeans will look to unleash their lethal force and get wickets early on.

India will also look to continue with the same team. The only concern will be of Khaleel Ahmed, who was rather expensive in the first ODI. But his good performance in the T20 series and the IPL may give him another chance in the team. If selected, this could be a crucial match for him, as he faces strong competition from Navdeep Saini, who had an impressive debut in the T20 match. The regulars Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammad Shami will lead the bowling unit, with support coming in from Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja. India’s batting looks pretty strong with the world’s top 2 batsmen in the line-up, along with Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer.
