World Cup 2018 | Team of the tournament | Fantasy Football | FanFight

The round of 16 of the 2018 FIFA World Cup has completed and there were quite a few surprises so far. With teams like Germany and Spain exiting the tournament in a dispiriting way. While nobody expected Russia to be unforgiving for Germany even during the summer, the most feeble performance came from the Spanish side, ending the phenomenon of “Tiki-Taka” football themselves. While their fans resorted to blaming the Goalkeeper for their team’s shambles at the world stage. Read on through as we take a look at the team of the tournament and their fantasy football scores. Let’s start off with the goalkeeper.

The penalty save against Modric in the 115 minute probably was the most important save of the tournament. He accumulated a total of 14 points that match. We were torn between Jordan Pickford of England and Kasper Schmeichel but based on the points accumulated by both we had to go with the Danish shot-stopper.

The tall and lanky Barcelona defender has become Colombia’s 2nd highest goal scorer at the World Cup after heading an injury-time equaliser against England. Tasked with keeping Raheem Sterling calm throughout the game, the Colombian did a marvellous job at it. The defender earned a total of 51 points through the World Cup. More than Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi combined, to put things in perspective.

The PSG right back has been in a scintillating form this World Cup. With 2 assists in 4 matches, he has been one of the best-attacking defenders this time around. Meunier has literally made the right flank of the pitch his own.

There isn’t much that has not been said about Modric. The Croatian midfield maestro has been instrumental in his team’s performances, as expected. Setting up and scoring goals like he always did, he has been the main propeller for the Croatian contingent.

The Brazilian midfield general, Paulinho has been silently been Brazil’s most influential player in the World Cup. While not making an obvious contribution, he stealthily did his job to perfection. While he didn’t accumulate a lot of points, it’s fair to say without him probably the others around wouldn’t have accumulated any points too. Much like Spain.

We know, we know. You probably expected to read Harry Kane’s name but guess what kid everything in life doesn’t happen as you want it. We have decided to go with Lukaku because without his contributions Belgium wouldn’t have been close to knockouts let alone quarter-final. His dummy in the game against Japan had more influence on his team than any of Harry Kane’s sensational penalties.
